Wallpaper Wednesday | Literary Heros {fin}

I hope you're all having a marvelous Wednesday!
Here, it's raining/sleeting and about 40*F - rather chilly for June!
It's seriously cramping my style - none of my animals want to be, or should be, out in this kind of weather, so I'm having to feed them hay today.  And I just opened our last bale of hay.  Yikes!
I might put the horses out later with their rain sheets/blankets on.

Anyway...
Here are the last wallpapers in the Literary Heroes Wallpaper series...

from Jane Austen's Sense & Sensibility

Colonel Brandon

portrayed here by Alan Rickman (1995 film)

and portrayed here by David Morrissey (2008 TV serial)

Edward Ferrars

portrayed here by Hugh Grant (1995 film)

and portrayed here by Dan Stevens (2008 TV serial)
.....

and from Jane Austen's Persuasion

Captain Frederick Wentworth
portrayed here by Rupert Penry-Jones  (2007 TV drama)

-As always, each wallpaper picture links to its full sized image and are also available on the For You page-
.....

And, until I can find or take screencaps from Anne of Green Gables and The Scarlet Pimpernel, we shall bid adieu to our beloved Literary Heroes.
.....

Next time on Wallpaper Wednesday get set for...

Doctor Who!!!

p.s.
Which is your favorite adaptation of Sense & Sensibility?
I enjoy them both, but the 1995 version is my favorite - Kate Winslet is Marianne.
But I LOVE that Colonel Brandon duels Willoughby in the 2008 version...although I don't think I'll ever be able to look at David Morrissey the same way again after watching Our Mutual Friend (1998).  Bradley Headstone seriously freaked me out!
Okay, I'm going now...really, I am.

Happy Trails!

  1. These are lovely!

My favorite S&S adaptation is definitely the 2008. There's just something about it, stylistically, that really appeals to me. Plus I infinitely prefer it's depiction of Col. Brandon and Edward Ferrars. The Colonel seems like a GRANDFATHER in the 1995 version - for heaven's sake, the man is thirty-five, not fifty. I also like that version of Elinor.

The only thing I prefer about the 1995 version is that is has more funny Margaret lines, and I love the bit where Edward plays with her.

Dear me, that was a long comment. I shall shush now.

  2. As always, absolutely GORGEOUS.

Oh, 1995, definitely. That version is one of my favorite films period. Everyone is so *perfect* and just...wow. Love it.

(and just wait...Morrissey turns up in a Doctor Who special - The Next Doctor, if I remember right. It's a pretty epic episode. REALLY funny!)

and I'm counting down the days till next Wednesday. Just sayin'. :)_

  4. 1995 for me... The '08 adaption is quite nice, but most of the characters don't seem quite right to me, somehow. It's got a rather modern vibe...
And Marianne... is Kate Winslet. Or vice-versa. Either way, it's good.

    Love ya,

  5. Sense and Sensibility--one of my favorite Austen stories (P&P being my very fave, of course ;-) ). It's been far too long since I actually read the book *sheepish*.
As far as the actual story goes, I like the 1970s BBC version, starring Irene Richards as Elinor and Tracy Childs as Marianne (Margaret is omitted altogether). A four-part miniseries, this version tells more of the story than the 1995 film, although the film has more "life" to it, if you follow me. And I actually prefer the film's Colonel Brandon, as we get to know him a bit more than in the miniseries, and can root for him with more conviction.
(Listen to me; I sound like a movie critic!)
My biggest beef with the film's Colonel Brandon is that he's too old (as Victoria said, he was only 35, not 50!), but that aside, Alan Rickman's portrayal remains my favorite of all (both) adaptations I've seen.

    God bless,
    ~"Tom" the long-winded~
