I ♥ Thursday {no. 2}

This week I'm lovin'...

One of my absolute favorite TV series!

Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch as John Watson and Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes has been my hero and favorite detective for as long as I can remember, so I was super excited about watching Sherlock, classic Sherlock Holmes in a modern setting.  I must admit that I was a bit dubious at first of a modern Sherlock, but they did an absolutely fantastic job on this series.  Fantastic!
Welll...except they pretty much ruined Irene Adler.  Just sayin'.
But, I really like the way they showed Sherlock's thought and observation process.  Absolutely amazing.
And John Watson was great, too.  Finally, he's not a fat, bumbling idiot!
(In all fairness, he wasn't too bad in the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock films, either.)
Benedict Cumberbatch is sooooo perfect as the modern day Sherlock Holmes.
He's got a seriously awesome voice and accent.  And, a totally cool coat.

Please use caution and your own judgement when viewing this show.  Although I love it, there are a few things which I find inappropriate and which I skip, including some language and adult content.  Specifically in Episode 1 of Season 2, which is when they ruined Irene Adler.   *grr*

I don't know how I'm going to stand waiting until next year for Season 3!  But, I guess I'll have to;)

  1. Beautiful header photo, Natasha.
Is that Bob? I can't seem to distinguish between Bob & Dewey, but I can tell when it's Freckles.
Maybe cuz I have a few!

  2. QUOTE: "And John Watson was great, too. Finally, he's not a fat, bumbling idiot!"

Have you watched any of the BBC TV series? The ones with Jeremy Brett as Holmes. Their Watsons (role played by two different actors over time) were much less "bumbling idiot" than the Nigel Bruce character back in the '30s and '40s. (Although I must say, Basil Rathbone *is* Sherlock Holmes, IMHO. Especially looks-wise. I stop now....)

    God bless,

  3. Mr. Dane - Thank you! That's Bob. He and Dewey do look very similar to each other! Dewey has a sprinkling of spots on his rump and more color, while Bob has no spots and is white except for his legs and ears.

  4. Wild Rose - I didn't even know there was another BBC Sherlock Holmes TV series!! How did I miss that?? Definitely have to check it out=)
Glad to know their Watson wasn't a bumbling idiot, either.

And you are so right - Basil Rathbone is Sherlock Holmes. Completely agreed!

  5. Love the new header! It just exudes summer happiness!!I have read all of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries but have never seen any series of them ,but from the looks of the cute guys playing the role, perhaps I have missed something here! Ha!

  6. This is next on my "check out" list...well, that and Robin Hood. If I can tear myself away from Doctor Who long enough to check it out. Hehe. I love Benedict Cumberbatch, so very much looking forward to it. :)

The Jeremy Brett one is AWESOME! He's become my definitive Sherlock. And yes, the Watsons aren't bumbling like in the 30's ones. I hate bumbling Watsons. :)

  7. Winnie - Thanks:)
    lol. Perhaps you have;D

Alexandra - Hehe;) It will be well worth taking a wee break from Doctor Who to watch this! But afterwards, right back to The Doctor, of course. *grin*
    Benedict Cumberbatch is so amazing!!

Okay, now I definitely need to see Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes! Ugh - bumbling Watsons. ;)

  8. I'm so glad you've started watching Sherlock. I started watching Doctor Who because I saw you liked it. I can't remember which I watched first - Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant or Doctor Who. Anyway, I'm a fan. Although, I'm taking a break between the 3rd and 4th series, because it's DT's last season and that makes me sad.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand - Sherlock! It's my favorite thing on television. I didn't like the way they twisted Irene Adler and gave her such a dirty profession, but I did thing the plot and mystery were fabulous. I think me favorite episode so far might be "The Reichenbach Fall."
All the acting in the show is excellent. I think Benedict Cumberbatch delivers his speed lines faster in the second series, don't you. The only bad things I can think of with the show is that there are only three episodes a season and that we have to wait so long between seasons.
Anyway, thank you so much for your blog!

  9. Elinor - Welcome to my blog! I'm honored to have been the one who made you want to watch Doctor Who! =) Oh, I know - I'm going to hate saying goodbye to David Tennant as The Doctor! :'(

Yes! Sherlock is amazing. Love, love, love it!
The plots in all of the episodes are definitely fabulous. My bro and I are trying to figure out how Sherlock did it at the end of The Reichenbach Falls. A few ideas so far...
Yes, I think Benedict talks even faster in season 2, too! I love it=)
I know - I wish there were more episodes per season, but at least each episode is 90 min. long.
You're welcome! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! Hope to 'see' you here again:)
