Dream a little bigger.

Awhile back, I was talking to two very dear sisters in Christ.   We covered many topics, including desiring God's will above all in your life.  And then we started talking farming, and I said, "Someday, when I have my own place, I'd like a covered walkway from the house to the barn!"  It's kind of a joke I have with myself, although it certainly would be nice!  But they responded with, "Be careful not to let your dreams interfere with God's plan!"  They were half joking, half serious.  I know they meant it well, but I kind of felt like someone had pulled the rug out from under me.  Like all of my dreams had just fallen to the ground in a broken heap.

If you are truly desiring His will and seeking Him in your life, then your dreams will line up with that.  Girls, don't let anyone make you afraid to dream big, to hope!  There is nothing wrong with dreaming about your future home, hoping that someday you'll be a wife and mother, wishing for that dream farm, or whatever it is that you're dreaming of.  The danger is not in the dreaming, it's in your focus.  Are you focused on Jesus?  Is drawing closer to Him your hearts desire?  Is He first in your life?  Yes?  Then dream on!

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt though dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:3-5

And never discourage one of your sisters from dreaming.  Sometimes, they're doing everything they can just to keep the tears back and that smile on their face.  Don't take away their dreams.  Don't bring those tears to the surface.  I'm just as guilty as anyone of doing that.  It's so easy to tear someone down, even when our intentions are good.

One more thing.  Don't be afraid to let go of dreams when God tells you to.

What are some of your dreams?  I want to know!

  1. A house at the edge of town somewhere in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, with equal walking distance to the train station and into a forest.
It's a big dream, and comes hand in hand with the dream of finding someone to share that house with...

Thank you for sharing this. It's important and thought provoking.

  2. I have always thought of dreams as possible. So much depends on location and circumstance and sometimes you have unique opportunities and sometimes the dream morphs to fit what you suddenly find yourself in. Life has this unpredictable quality about it and so you never quite know how it will all unfold. But, I agree with you about dreams. Dream big. Dream bold. Dream with an eye on seeing it happen and never turn down opportunity to take a risk.. You never know when that risk will lead to that dream you have been keeping in your heart! If you don't dream, how will you recognize opportunity when it comes knocking at your door when you least expect it?

And the next time someone thinks your dreams are nuts? Just smile because nobody can really steal away your dreams. You might change the dream, but it will be based on new information as you live your life and not someone else's bias!

  6. Great post Tahsa! This is so true, and something I needed RIGHT now... What perfect timing!:) Continue dreaming Tasha, because I think God takes note of our dreams/wishes and likes to grant them when He can (or maybe he is the one that gives us the dreams in the first place?)

When my dad was a boy, he said that he would get married at age 30, marry a woman with blond hair and blue eyes, have 10 children, and live to be 100. Well, he got married age 30, you know that my mom fits that description perfectly, God gave him 10 kids plus an extra for good measure, and he just hit the half way mark to 100.:) To look at those things, most people would probably have said that he was silly, but God apparently didn't think so.

    Love you! ~Mia

BTW I think a covered walkway from house to barn would be a wonderful thing!:)

  7. You're completely right Tasha! I'm going to be an actress, but I'll use it to further the glory of God so what's wrong with it?
