Going Through the Era's {Matinee Saturday} - 1950s

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

This week {March 18th-24th} is the 1950s.

Today's theme is...Matinee Saturday!
{do movie reviews of movies from the era. share your favorite Actors/Actresses, fun movie trivia, etc....}

The films that stand out to me from this era are the lavish Biblical epics (The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, Quo Vadis, The Robe, etc.) and, at the other end of the scale, the totally bizarre Science Fiction adventures (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Them!, This Island Earth, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Blob, etc.).

I loved watching The Ten Commandments when I was little and was delighted when I discovered the other wonderful Biblical epics.  They're big, colorful, and in many ways bring the Bible to life for me and encourage me.

I also grew up watching the old sci-fi films, thanks to my dad.  There's really nothing he likes better than to sit down with all of us and watch The Day the Earth Stood Still, Journey to the Center of the Earth, or When World's Collide.  All of that exposure to sci-fi fare at an early age must have had it's effect, because I'm right there with him enjoying every minute.  It makes for a rather startling contrast to my usual old-fashioned, girly self;)

was too lazy didn't have time to review a film today, so I thought I'd steal Ashley's idea (hope you don't mind, Ashley:) and just list my favorite films from the 50s.

This comes under the heading of bragging rights rather than trivia, but I recently discovered that I share ancestors both with William Holden and with Ronald Reagan.  They're cousins 7x removed...or something like that.  I'm not exactly sure on that point, but...
I thought that was pretty cool and I just had to tell someone=)

Going Through the Era's {Random Wednesday} - 1950s

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

 This week {March 18th-24th} is the 1950s.
Today's theme is...Random Wednesday!
{share photos/magazine scans/dishes/cleaning recipes/things you own from the era/etc...}

Today, instead of sharing more family pictures, I want to share some scans of my two Roy Rogers Comic books and one of my Roy Rogers music books.
These are all from the mid-fifties.

Click the images to enlarge.

an advertisement from the comic book
It can be very difficult to find Roy Rogers memorabilia that's in good shape and for a reasonable price.
The guy was and is so popular and loved!

Roy and I think that's Roy Jr. "Dusty" with him.
Roy teaches you the basics of guitar

These pictures were also in the music book, although I'm not sure which film they're from.
That looks like Bob Hope with Roy, so possibly Son of Paleface?  I've never seen the film, so I don't really know.

And here's one of the songs from the book...

.....

Happy Trails, folks!

Going Through the Era's {Fun Monday} - 1950's

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

This week {March 18th-24th} is the 1950s.
Today's theme is...Fun Monday!
{share games, TV shows, music, radio shows and books from the era}

One of my newly discovered favorite singers is
Pat Boone.
I just love his voice and his songs are so fun!

During the 50s he was second biggest charting artist with only Elvis Presley coming in ahead of him.
He was known for his clean-cut, boyish image and as a Christian refused movie roles and songs that he felt might compromise his standards.

These two songs are my favorites...
Ain't That A Shame and A Wonderful Time Up There.

 Someone I've loved listening to ever since I first saw her in White Christmas, is
Rosemary Clooney.
When I was just a kid, my mom would put Mambo Italiano on, and we'd dance around the room and sing to it.  My mom and her sisters used to do the same when they were kids:)

.....

Some of my absolute FAVORITE TV shows are from this era...

Wanted: Dead or Alive
{1958-61}
Starring the amazingly wonderful and totally adorable King of Cool: Steve McQueen!
Um, in case you couldn't tell...I'm a McQueen fan;D

Leave it to Beaver
 {1957-63}
Meet the Cleaver family!  Ward and June Cleaver, and their sons Wally and Theodore, who prefers to be called "Beaver".   My whole family loves this show.  Beaver (played by Jerry Mathers) is quite possibly the cutest little boy ever.    I absolutely adore June Cleaver's wardrobe - she wears the cutest clothes:)

And of course there's The Andy Griffith Show, Ozzie and Harriet, Dennis the Menace, What's My Line and The Roy Rogers Show...I love 50s TV shows:)

.....

And that's all for today.
Happy Trails, y'all!
