Miscellany // Doctor Who Feels & Christmas

And dinner is in the oven.  Which means I have a few minutes to sit down and write a blog post.  That's a good feeling.  I've been rushing around here lately, and I'm really not liking it.

I'm a homebody and an introvert.  I like staying home.  Sometimes, I'm antisocial.

In fact, I had no plans for this week at all.  At all.  I love it when I can get caught up on everything at home and then just recharge.  I ended up going to town today to help with something at our church and to do a bit of shopping.  But that was okay.  Sometimes, you need to get out of the house.  But more often than not...

Speaking of which, I FINALLY saw The Angels Take Manhattan!  Yowzah!!

I cried.  A lot.  I cried when Amy and Rory jumped off the building...

And I cried harder when Amy deliberately turned her back on the angel so she could be with Rory.

And I have had people tell me this...they have no understanding.

In other news, I'm super, super excited about Christmas!
The most wonderful time of the year, and definitely my favorite!

I want to make one of these so much! Wouldn't be hard. :)

I feel like a little kid, stringing lights, putting decorations on the tree, making gifts, wrapping presents.  Love it. *smile*

And that's all I have time for right now.  I need to go eat some snickerdoodles.  Ta ta!

What have you been doing lately?  I want to know!

Happy Trails, y'all!

February 28, 2013

It's awesome.

It's awesome...when you get a $25 off coupon code from eShakti just for being a new customer.  Found an adorable dress in the overstock section (40% off).  Got it for $15.90.  Ooooh yeah!

It's awesome...playing the clothespin game at a friend's house warming party.  You know, the one where everyone starts out with one clothespin, and if you see someone cross their arms or legs you get to take their clothespin...or visa versa.  So simple, but so much fun.

It's awesome...when you realize you have more time left on your free Netflix trial than you thought you had.  I am so going to get through all of Star Trek: Voyager!! =D

It's awesome...when the moonlight is so bright you can see your shadow on the snow.

It's awesome...knowing that Spring will be here before too long.  Love the snow...but I am ready for Spring.

It's awesome...playing Mafia at our last game night.  Too much fun!  Picture post coming soon...like Aslan, I call all time "soon". ;)

It's awesome...listening to my family watch Sky King in the other room.  I love old TV shows, but this one wins hands down as lamest show ever.  The plots center around an airplane pilot/cowboy (I know, really?!) with the unlikely name of Sky King.  Sky is his first name, and King is his last.  Sky King.  I only wish I were kidding you.  Sky has a super annoying niece named Penny who is always getting kidnapped or something equally dumb.  Not to mention, the actress playing Penny can't act to save her life.  But, my dad is an airplane and helicopter pilot, so he loves it in spite of, or perhaps because of, it's corniness.  I prefer to listen from the other room, doubled over in silent laughter.

It's awesome...when your friend has a grey cat named Gandalf.  Get it?  Gandalf the Grey?  Awesomeness.

It's awesome...realizing that in 18 days, I will be 24.  Where have the years gone?  In all honesty, I still feel like I'm 18.  Hard to believe that that was 6 years ago...wow.  Now I feel old.

It's awesome...being asked to sing at our church's music night next month.  Surprisingly, I'm actually looking forward to it, although I'll admit that my first thought was, "Why would anyone be so mean, asking me to get up in front of everyone and sing?!"  But my bro really wants to do it, and his enthusiasm is rubbing off on me.  We're going to sing "Glorious Day".  And it will be fun, and I will control my nerves.  After all, it's really not about me, it's about glorifying God and blessing those around me.  Yeah, try and tell that to my nerves!

It's awesome...discovering this website.  Just think of a fictional character and answer Akinator's questions honestly. I seriously spent hours this evening trying to stump him.  His knowledge of Dicken's characters and Henty heroes is lacking. ;)

Have a lovely weekend, y'all!

by the spoonful

Hey.  I'm just sitting here, watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, snarfing apple slices with peanut butter and nutella.  I seriously don't understand how anyone - ANYONE - could not like peanut butter.  This stuff is delicious.  I mean, if you don't like it you're certainly entitled to your own opinion and taste...but you're missing out.  I eat it by the spoonful.  Just saying.  Also, the Lizzie Bennet Diaries are insanely awesome!
{note: some content is inappropriate for my younger readers, which is why i'm not linking to the videos.  please be aware and watch with caution.}
Anyway...

Lately, I have been in a blogging rut.  A HUGE blogging rut.  The kind of ruts you see in dirt roads during spring in North Idaho.  Deep.  Muddy.  All of my posts lately have been a bunch of randomness thrown together with a title slapped on.  I simply cannot think of anything to say.  The fact that January always has been and always will be a boring month, does not help.  No offence if your birthday is in January, btw.   But, it is a boring month.  Christmas and New Years have come and gone and what's left after that?  The flu season.  I'm not sick, by the way, nor do I intend to be, Lord willing.

Back to me having nothing to say...
I actually have a lot to say.  My mind is full of wonderful thoughts and plans...but I can't share them here.  They're not the "sharing on the internet for the entire world to read (not to mention real life friends)" kind of thoughts.  And since they are the kind of thoughts that take up all of your time and energy, there hasn't been any room to think of brilliant blog posts.  So, there you have it!  My {somewhat} silent blog is explained.

Today was a good day.  The weather was gorgeous, although very, very cold.  Which meant I didn't really want to be outside.  I narrowly escaped a cabin fever collapse of epic proportions by discovering and watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (LBD from now on).   Which is not all I did today.  Goodness, no.
I got up and ventured into the arctic world to feed the animals at around 8:30 this morning.
After that, I read my Bible, made coffee cake, consumed 1/4 of said coffee cake, deep conditioned my hair (using a honey, olive oil, apple cider vinegar concoction which has to stay on for an hour), did laundry, watched some LBD episodes, did more laundry, washed my hair, sang in the shower (Think of meeeeeee!  Think of me fooooondlyyyy!  When we've said goooood-bye!), checked on the laundry, watched a few more LBD episodes, cleaned the outside of the kitchen cabinets with Pledge (that has been on my list for a looooong time.  finally did it!), ate the rest of the coffee cake (what was left after my bro found it, that is), ate lunch, wrote a letter to my new pen pal (hey, Kelsey!:), started a letter to one of my church friends (Amanda), watched more LBD, worked on packaging an Etsy order, did laundry, played my mandolin, ate dinner (it was my bro's dinner night:), called my Aunt Liz (no answer so I left a message), finished a book I've been reading, ventured back into the cold to feed the animals again, came back inside, checked to see if my toes were still there, blew my nose...twice, changed in to my flannel pajama pants (with sheepies on them, of course;), watched more LBD, and ate apples slices with peanut butter and nutella.

Life ain't bad at all.
Happy Trails everyone!

p.s.
okay really quickly, I had to select a new contest winner for the DW necklace giveaway.

Visiting the Sheep | 1st Vlog

Alright-y, you asked for it!  My first ever vlog!

Actually, because of my brother's amazing camera skills and awesome editing, it turned out really nice. *grin*
Thanks bro!

Without further ado, me...with a special appearance by the Bonnie dog.

So, what do y'all think?  Is this something you'd like to see more of, or should I stick to the written word and pictures?  No matter what your opinion, do let me know!  I promise, I won't be offended;)

S'Wonderful...

Birthdays are so very special.
It's the day you came into the world.
A day devoted entirely to celebrating how marvelous you are.
Well, at least celebrating the fact that you were born;)
And to make it even better, presents are involved...
...and really, who doesn't enjoying opening presents?

Is it terribly juvenile and corny to have pictures taken of you opening presents on your 23rd birthday?
Well, even if it is, I'm sharing them anyway...
You'll just have to deal with it;)

I had a simply marvelous birthday this year, despite the fact that my Kellie missed it.
You can read her beautiful Bappy Hirthday post, if you want.
It made me smile, and I think you'll see why;)

Anyway, my grandparents came over for lunch (Noodle Express! Yummy!!), and my Grandma brought a beautiful (and delicious) chocolate cake.  The voice lessons really paid off, as I was able to blow out all 23 candles with one breath.  I don't think I've ever done that before!
Yes, I am ridiculously pleased with myself;)

My wonderful extended family sent me a group Happy Birthday email, and a phone call from my dear cousin Abbie and one from Kellie made my day perfection itself!

Alex gave me the best card ever.  He made it himself, and all he wrote inside was "Hi!"
If you've never seen Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation, then you won't get it.
My bro is the ultimate younger brother.

He gave me an autographed copy of his newly published children's book Rathdrum Willie.
I'll be sharing more about his book at a later date.

Dad and Mom
My mom was having a really good day that day, which made it all the more special:)

Now, I don't want to brag, but I got some seriously awesome presents.

I have long desired these puppies...

Ahem, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Special Extended DVD Edition.
I LOVE how the DVD covers look like antique books.
And if you're going to invest in these movies, do yourself a favor and get the extended editions.  They're way better than the theatrical cut.

I add films to my collection as meticulously and carefully as I add books to my library, so I'm absolutely thrilled to be adding those to my shelf, as well as these...

My daddy knows me well;)

Also a lovely teacup from The Victorian Trading Co. with my birth month March inscribed upon it.
You can't see the lettering very well in the picture, but it looks very Hobbit-ish to me.
:)

My birthday post wouldn't be complete without some outfit pics.

Happy Trails, y'all!

Miscellany

It's pouring rain outside right now.
I was just out there feeding the animals and spent a considerable amount of time stumbling around the upper pasture trying to locate our three llamas and my pet sheep Calvin.
In the dark.
Stumbling because of course I didn't have a flashlight.  Why would I need a flashlight when it's dark?
I mean, really?
Ok, so I'm not very bright...no pun intended;)
I also didn't utualize the hood so conveniently attached to my jacket so I am rather wet, to put it mildly.
And I gave up on trying to find the llamas and Calvin.  If they want to stay out in the pasture when it's raining, they can.  A bit of dampness won't hurt them and there are trees for shelter.

The rest of my flock of sheep are at a friend's house visiting his ram for a month.  Sometime around April we'll have a new crop of lambs bouncing about.  I can't wait:)

Alex and I had a lovely evening at a friend's Inspirational Harvest Party this evening.  Taco salad (oh, yum), good fellowship, wonderful singing, and a short "sermon" by one of the dads.   At least, I assume it was short - we had to leave early cause my dad wanted us home by 9:00.  Bummer.

But, I had the opportunity to wear my new coat for the first time...
My mom bought me this vintage trench coat on Etsy.  It's purple-ish/pink-ish.  I LOVE it =D
The wonderful Christian lady who owns the shop sent such a lovely note along with it.
She lifted me up and encouraged me.
Isn't it wonderful how we're connected to other believers through Christ, even if we've never met them?
It's awesome.

I just watched "Secretariat" again.  Absolutely beautiful movie.

This is seriously cracking me up...

There's nothing more appropriate on a chilly autumn day than a hot bowl of soup.  I've been going crazy making soup lately - potato, rice & mushroom, onion, and I'm going to try beet soup tomorrow night.  With sour cream.  It doesn't get any better than that.

Have a lovely Friday evening everyone!
Watch a fun classic film for me, ok?;)

Hello, Blogger!

Wow, I'm typing my first official post on my new blog!

Well, first off, welcome to my blog, Day by Day!

My name is Natasha Marie, and I am a 22-year-old, formerly homeschooled, older daughter living at home with my wonderful family in beautiful North Idaho.

For the past few years I've been blogging at PlexPedia.com.
I loved blogging at PlexPedia.  It's easy to use and fun.  But it just doesn't get the same amount of traffic as Blogger.  My old blog was mainly just about me and my life.  {You can read most of my old posts which I have relocated to this blog.}  While I will still blog about those things, I want to give more attention to promoting my Etsy shop, Wool & What-not.  Which is why I decided to move to Blogger.

I take pleasure in many things, but at the top of the list are studying God's Word and His amazing creation, riding my horse Bob, hiking with my dog Bonnie, raising sheep, reading, history (especially Scottish history), sewing, crocheting, playing the piano and mandolin, singing, babies, laughing, wearing skirts, long hair, watching classic films, dancing, historical costumes, homemaking, home education, vintage clothing, millinery, messing around in my garden, cleaning, photography, spending time with my family & friends, and web & graphic design.

It is my earnest desire to serve the Lord in all that I do and say, do His will, and by His grace be a godly woman.

I want this blog to be a light in the darkness for God's glory and I pray that you will be blessed in some small way by your visit here.

Many blessings,
~Tasha~

In Which I take Pictures of My Bonnet...

My mom and I love vintage hats.

Sometimes, just for fun, we'll look up vintage hats on ebay, and ooh and ahh over them for a bit.   One day, while we were engaged in this pleasant past time, Mom found an absolutely darling little hat!  I'm not sure if it would be considered a hat or a bonnet, but I fell in love with it, never expecting to get it.   I was therefore all the more surprised and delighted when I received the bonnet for Christmas!

I couldn't believe Mom had actually bought it for me, and I was very pleased=)

Well, Kellie has been hearing about this hat for about a month now, but she still hasn't seen it...until now.

So, without further ado, I would like to present...the hat.

.....

Please pardon my non-period correct shirt...I don't have a dress worthy of this bonnet.  That's next on my sewing list.

Aren't the feathers simply delightful?!

Oh, and the sweet cluster of roses with the blue/green ribbon!

Kellie, the back of this hat, as you can see, sits rather high on the head, so there's room for a bun bellow, but there's also an incredible amount of room inside.  I believe you'd be able to fit all of your hair under it with no trouble at all!  And for those of you who know Kellie, that's saying a lot;)  Next time you come over, you'll have to try it on, dear:)

And then...well, I don't know what it is about Photobooth, but it tends to lead to extreme amounts of craziness and silliness...
It just went downhill from here...fast.

Enjoy;)

Apparently I enjoy making faces at myself...

...strange faces.

I scare myself sometimes.  I really do...

It was about here that I remembered all of the neat effects that Photobooth offers...

Don't worry, I'll spare you the pics I took on distort mode;D  They were totally unworthy of my bonnet, anyways...

My "twin" and I had a happy reunion - we're absolutely identical, not even our mother can tell us apart.

Comic book - I actually like the way this one turned out.  The bonnet looks neat...and my hair looks blue.

Oh, so elegant...

Or not.

I liked the previous face so much, I had to try it out in Pop Art mode.

Glamour glow...

I was starting to return to my normal state of sanity at this point...I don't know that I have a normal state of sanity, but I was pretty normal at this point...for me.

I think Sketch is my favorite effect - it makes everything look so soft and dreamy.  Love it:)

Y'all come back now...

Happy Trails!
