New in the Shop | Vintage Miscellany & Gift Cards

There we were, driving to church, enjoying the beautiful early spring weather, when a horrible thought struck me - it was daylight savings day, and we were late.  Very late.

Yes...42 minutes late, to be precise.  Since we were already well on our way to town, we decided to just go to church anyway.  No reason to miss out on the good fellowship afterwards, right?
I'll admit to calling down a few "curses" on Ben Franklin as we drove along.  Some classics like, "May he grow like an onion with his head in the ground!"  And a few Tasha originals like, "May the sole of his left foot itch for one thousand years!"  Okay, so it wasn't actually implemented during Franklin's lifetime, but he did propose a similar suggestion to DST in the 1700s and I blame him.  Ahem, yes.
It made for a very odd, disjointed day I can tell you that!

: :

However, the purpose of this post is to share what's been going on in my shop recently not to bash Ben, as fun as that is.  This past week I've been busily editing and listing vintage hats, gloves, and handkerchiefs!  A small sampling below...

Yes, I've been a busy little bee this month and as a result Wool & What-not now accepts Etsy Gift Cards! *confetti*  And not only that, she's turning two on the 19th! *more confetti*  Keep your eyes open for an anniversary sale {and maybe a giveaway, too??) next week and new spring items later this month!! *still more confetti*

Have a lovely week, y'all! :)

It's awesome.

It's awesome...when your dad buys your mom flowers.

It's awesome...that he always plops them haphazardly into a vase.

It's awesome...because he knows I'll come along and arrange them properly for him.

It's awesome...learning more about your Great Great Grandmother Lucy on your mom's side.  She lived on a ranch in California in the early 1900s and was apparently a bit of a pioneer as she wore pants when working on the ranch and even had a drivers license, neither of which were typical for women in those days.

It's awesome...that that ranch in California is still owned by the family (my mom, her siblings, and their cousins all own shares), although it's not a working ranch anymore.  Sadly, it's quite rundown.  Last time I was there (which had to be about 10 years ago) the ranch house was in complete disrepair and inhabited only by mice and bats.  Perhaps needless to say, we camped in an RV and a tent. ;)

It's awesome...going through the book It's {Not That} Complicated by Anna Sophia & Elizabeth Botkin with a group of girls at church.  Since I'm older, a lot of the topics and ideas are ones I'm already familiar with, but I'm really being blessed through our study.  It's great getting to share thoughts with the girls!

It's awesome...getting two new (to me) colors of Essie nail polish in the mail.  I decided to try Mint Candy Apple (a beautiful minty color with just a hint of blue) and St. Lucia Lilac (a lovely pale lilac).  I'm wearing the lilac right now and I love it! Sometimes, you just need a little something to boost your spirits during the months right before spring. :)

It's awesome...watching one of the latest episodes of LBD.  Darcy in an afro wig?!  Ahahahahaha!!  LOVE!!!

It's awesome...coming home from a thrifting expedition with some super cute "new" clothes.  I love thrifting with friends!

It's awesome...buying the first two records for my vintage record collection.  Eeep!!!  I found a Frank Sinatra record and a Pat Boone record at the antique store the other day for about $5 each.  So, so excited!  I can't wait to listen to them!  And who knows when that will be since I don't own a turntable.

It's awesome...finally deciding to sign up for Netflix and take advantage of their month long free trial. Wish I could have it all the time!  Maybe someday when I actually have a "real" job. ;)

It's awesome...turning in my job application at the florist shop.  And now...we wait.

It's awesome...enjoying each day the Lord gives me.  I may not always be as joyful as I should be, but He has blessed me beyond what I deserve.  I thank Him for each day He gives me and for each person He has put in my life.

It's awesome...when your church puts such emphasis on unity within the body of Christ.  It really feels and functions like a family.  Everyone really and truly cares about everyone else.   And our potlucks are the best ever.  Just sayin'.

Question: What are some of the awesome things in your life?  I want to know!

Kellie's 3rd annual Literary Heroine Blog Party is coming up!  Don't miss the fun! :)

New in the Shop...

My little shop has just been hoping this month!
Two laptop sleeves sold and custom bow belts for a wedding ordered.
I'm terribly excited about the bow belts=)
It's so exciting to see the Lord blessing my efforts like this.

I've added some new listings to the shop.

A new laptop sleeve - love the colors in this one.
Wellll, I love the colors in all of the sleeves I make, but this one I really love.
{granny square laptop sleeve - grey, purple and pink}

I also have some bow belts in fun spring and summer colors made up - I just need to find time to do an outdoor photo shoot with them and then they'll be in the shop.

Some vintage finds...

I'd like to find some more hatpins to sell in my shop.  I think I'll have to start haunting ebay again...;)

Happy Trails, y'all!

Going Through the Era's {Random Wednesday} - 1950s

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

 This week {March 18th-24th} is the 1950s.
Today's theme is...Random Wednesday!
{share photos/magazine scans/dishes/cleaning recipes/things you own from the era/etc...}

Today, instead of sharing more family pictures, I want to share some scans of my two Roy Rogers Comic books and one of my Roy Rogers music books.
These are all from the mid-fifties.

Click the images to enlarge.

an advertisement from the comic book
It can be very difficult to find Roy Rogers memorabilia that's in good shape and for a reasonable price.
The guy was and is so popular and loved!

Roy and I think that's Roy Jr. "Dusty" with him.
Roy teaches you the basics of guitar

These pictures were also in the music book, although I'm not sure which film they're from.
That looks like Bob Hope with Roy, so possibly Son of Paleface?  I've never seen the film, so I don't really know.

And here's one of the songs from the book...

.....

Happy Trails, folks!

Going Through the Era's {Random Wednesday} - 1940's

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

 This week {March 11th-17th} is the 1940s.

Ready for more old family photos?!
Well ready or not, here we go...

First off, this one should have gone in the 30s post, but for some reason didn't make it in...

Clifford Raymond Miller
That little cutey is my Grandpa Cliff. :)

In my 30s post, you meet my Great Grandpa Anton "Tony", Great Grandma Ann "Annie" and their daughter Barbara.

Here they are in the 40s, although I have no pictures of Tony from this era.

Barbie Kern
My Grandma still plays the violin, also the piano and guitar.
A love of music is something I definitely inherited from her.

Barbie

The Kern family car, a Chevy
According to the note on the back, this car was wrecked sometime around 1945-ish.

Barbie and her dog Toy

Ann and Barbara Kern - 1946

Ann Kern and Toy -1946
Barbie and Toy - 1946
Remember the cute little boy in the first picture?
Well here's his family during the 40s...

Loretta, Clifford and Yvonne Miller
(I'm not sure who the little boy is - maybe a cousin)
I believe they were dressed up for a school play.

Clifford and Loretta in the back with Yvonne and Eileen in the front.
The baby of the family, Eileen, was tragically hit by a car and killed when she was very young.

The Miller kids
And that's all for the 40s.
Happy Trails y'all!

Going Through the Era's {Fun Monday} - 1940's

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

This week {March 11th-17th} is the 1940s.
Today's theme is...Fun Monday!
{share games, TV shows, music, radio shows and books from the era}
....

The Andrews Sisters were in high demand during the 40s, and were the most profitable stage attraction in the nation.

I just love their songs Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Bei Mir Bist Du Shon, and Oh, Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh!

{Fun Fact: those of you who watch the Narnia movies may recognize Oh, Johnny, etc. as it was used during the hide and seek scene in LWW.  You probably all knew that already, but you never know...}

One of the popular crooners of the day, and someone who has been one of my absolute favorite singers for as long as I can remember, is Bing Crosby.

Here's his version of Don't Fence Me In, one of my favorite songs, sung with the Andrews Sisters.

After checking out Hanne-col's post for today, I realized I'd excluded two of my favorite entertainers...
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans!
Several years ago, I fell madly in love with Roy and Dale.  All I watched were their movies.  All I listened to were their songs.   For about a year:)
And I still love them very much, but they've had to make room for others whom I have come to love.
But here are a few of my favorite songs from one their movies...

They just love giving each other a hard time and are so, so cute together! :)

I love all of their films, but I think that Lights of Old Santa Fe is my very favorite.
.....

The Patty Lou books by Basil Miller are a series of Christian adventure book for teen-age girls from the 40s.
There are only 3 book in the series from what I can tell - there isn't any information on these books online that I can find - Patty Lou of the Golden West, Patty Lou's Pot of Gold, and Patty Lou of the White Gold Ranch.

I own two of them, although I must admit that I've only read one of them, Patty Lou and the White Gold Ranch.  I received the other book as a present from a friend last year and just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.  You know how it goes - so many books, so little time. ;)

Anyway, the one I have read was both interesting and fun to read, with a good Christian message.

My books are both marked Second Edition 1943 and were published by Zondervan Publishing House.

Basil Miller also wrote a Christian adventure series for teen-age boys, about a boy named Ken.  I have the first book in that series, Ken Rides the Range, but can't find it right now.  I enjoyed reading it very much, though.

I've seen copies of these books in antique stores for about $4 each, and I'm sure you could find them on ebay, if you are so inclined.

Happy Trails, y'all!

Going Through the Era's {Random Wednesday} - 1930's

I'm linking up to Bramblewood Fashion's Going Through the Era's event!

The perfect opportunity to share some vintage pictures of my family!
I feel so, so blessed to have these lovely vintage pictures of my family to look through and enjoy.

~ 1930-1939 ~

These pictures are of my great grandparents on my mom's mom's side of the family...
...our Austrian side.

Edit: I have found some more info and have added it to this post

Anton "Tony" Kern was born in Ober-rakitsh, Austria and left home when he was 19 to work.  A few years after that (we don't know how old he was then), he came on a ship to America.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWI, but didn't go overseas.  Instead, he drove a motorcycle with a sidecar and chauffeured officers around.  He couldn't speak English very well.

Ann Hutain grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  She met Tony through an ad in a German newspaper.  He had placed the ad saying that he wanted a pen pal.  Ann's mother showed her the ad and encouraged her to write to him.  Annie didn't want to.  In fact, what Annie did want, was to become a nun.  But her mother insisted, so Annie wrote to Tony.  They corresponded for quite a while, and when Tony got leave he came for a visit.
They were married on June 2, 1920.
Ann was 18-years-old and Tony was 34-years-old.

Isn't that just the sweetest story?  I'm so glad that Ann didn't become a nun;)

{side note: I once had someone who'd been to Austria tell me that I look Austrian.  who'd have thunk?}

And there you go:)
I hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures...especially as I have plenty more to share for the 40s, 50s and 60s.   I also have some from the 20s and 10s if anyone would be interested in seeing those...
*grin*
