Miscellany // Doctor Who Feels & Christmas

And dinner is in the oven.  Which means I have a few minutes to sit down and write a blog post.  That's a good feeling.  I've been rushing around here lately, and I'm really not liking it.

I'm a homebody and an introvert.  I like staying home.  Sometimes, I'm antisocial.

In fact, I had no plans for this week at all.  At all.  I love it when I can get caught up on everything at home and then just recharge.  I ended up going to town today to help with something at our church and to do a bit of shopping.  But that was okay.  Sometimes, you need to get out of the house.  But more often than not...

Speaking of which, I FINALLY saw The Angels Take Manhattan!  Yowzah!!

I cried.  A lot.  I cried when Amy and Rory jumped off the building...

And I cried harder when Amy deliberately turned her back on the angel so she could be with Rory.

And I have had people tell me this...they have no understanding.

In other news, I'm super, super excited about Christmas!
The most wonderful time of the year, and definitely my favorite!

I want to make one of these so much! Wouldn't be hard. :)

I feel like a little kid, stringing lights, putting decorations on the tree, making gifts, wrapping presents.  Love it. *smile*

And that's all I have time for right now.  I need to go eat some snickerdoodles.  Ta ta!

What have you been doing lately?  I want to know!

Snowflakes // New in the Shop

7 Snowflake Ornaments // by Wool & Whatnot

Christmas has arrived at the shop!  These snowflakes are so much fun to make, and I love the way they look on the tree.  Not that we actually have our tree up yet.  I may already be listening to Christmas music, but the tree doesn't go up until after Thanksgiving.  Why not? Ninjas*...  I meant to say, tradition!  But that doesn't stop me from getting super psyched as I finish up my Christmas shopping.  I love finding just the right present for each person on my list, and it's almost more than I can handle, waiting until Christmas for them to find out what I got/made them.  Yes, I love this time of year.

Are you all ready to skip Thanksgiving and get to Christmas?  I want to know!

: :

*An inside joke.  "Ninjas" is our answer to any and every question.
Why are you late?  Ninjas.
What time is it?  Ninjas.
Who the heck came up with Daylight Savings?  Ninjas.
Doth mummy know you weareth her drapes?  Ninjas.
Why haven't I seen Thor 2 yet?  Ninjas.
Doctor who?  Ninjas.
Give it a try!

Merry Christ-mas!

All is still and quiet in the house.
The freshly fallen snow outside is glittering in the blue night-light of winter.
We've watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and still have A Christmas Story to look forward to.  My bro and I had a "light-saber" fight with the wrapping paper rolls, and my tummy is telling me that I ate too much chocolate and sugared popcorn.  But I don't care, because it's Christmas Eve!

What can I say?  A Muppet Christmas Carol is one of my absolute favorite Christmas movies. :)

But through all of the warm feelings of peace on earth, goodwill to men, I pray that I will never lose the wonder and awe of what Christmas truly is...it's the celebration of the birth of my Saviour, Jesus Christ.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will towards men.
and it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said on to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
: : Luke 2: 8-18 : :

During this season of celebrating Christ's birth, my church has been focusing on the wonder of His birth.
Just a wee babe born in a stable, yet...
Jesus was God.
Jesus was man.
Jesus was a servant.
Jesus was/is our Saviour.
Is that enough wonder for you?!  I can't even begin to fully take it all in.
Let's take the shepherds, who were the first to hear of Jesus' birth, as our example and share the wonderful news with everyone we meet!  Our Saviour is born!  Glory to God in the highest!

Merry Christmas everyone!

It's awesome.

It's awesome...when you can step outside in your pink kitty pajamas and there are no neighbors to see or care.   And let me tell you, I really rock the mud boots, jim-jams, barn coat, bed-head look.  At least the chickens are impressed!

It's awesome...when you start to get up from the computer with your headphones still on, but you remember to take them off before you drag the speakers off the desk and onto the floor.

It's awesome...getting a letter from your friend who's currently in the Philippines working at a clinic as a midwife.  You can read about Sarah's adventures here!

It's awesome...watching The Swiss Family Robinson with your family and being able to quote every line almost word for word before the characters say it.  We've watched that movie more times than I can count, ever since we were little kids at Grandma's house.

It's awesome...remembering what a crush I had on Fritz (James MacArthur) when I was 8-years-old.  I still just love that character - he's so manly. ;)

It's awesome...driving in the rain.  Not torrential rain, just enough to count as rain.  I love it.

It's awesome...doing the dishes while your brother sits at the computer and reads you the rough draft of his latest kids book.   Talk about laughing so hard you can't breath.  My brother has such a talent for putting words together.

It's awesome...hanging Christmas lights from the ceiling in your basement "playroom".  They make it look so festive and special!  I just love twinkling lights.  I think they're my favorite decoration.

It's awesome...when the 94-year-old man at your church gives his testimony and then sings all four verses of How Great Thou Art during church.  It was so beautiful and he still has a great voice!

It's awesome...looking at the beautiful nativity scene your neighbor puts up every year.  It's so lovely in the snow.

It's awesome...when you're at a friends house and suddenly you find yourself part of a back-rub "train" with seven people in it, all giving each other back-rubs.  Yeah, we do things like that.

It's awesome...when you're at the same friends house and suddenly find your height and "wingspan" being measured and then helping to measure everyone else in the room.  The length of your wingspan is supposed to equal your height, and we wanted to see how many of us had long arms.  My wingspan is 3 inches longer than my height.   And yes, all of this took place after 9:00 at night...we were well on our way to an extreme case of the Midnight Sillies. ;)

Merry Christmas!

Question: What is one of the silliest things that you and your friends or family have done late at night?  I want to know!

The day after Christmas...

We grabbed our Christmas candy, warmed up the car, and drove over to the A's house for an afternoon of...

Oh, yeah!!

"Snakes.  Why did it have to be snakes?"

Harrison Ford is awesome.  Just sayin'...

We watched in awe, laughed (Bang!), and ate our candy.
Also some delicious chips and dip made by Mrs. A and nummy cookies.
=)

Matthew's GIANT peppermint stick.
It's going to take him a long time to whittle that down to size...and might possibly cost him his teeth in the process.

After our movie was over, we played In a Pickle.
If all games must have a point and must make sense at all times, then this is not the game for you.
It's the perfect game for us, though.

Christopher

I win!!

Me! =)
Absolutely one of the most fun afternoons of my life!
I'm thinking that we might have to make this a day-after-Christmas tradition.
What do you think?
=)

Christmas Eve

It seems like each Christmas is better than the last, and this year was no exception...

Tradition dictates that the Falconers must come over on Christmas Eve, so...they did.

Tradition further dictates that we play Risk...and we did

good friends - laughter - sweet treats

Tradition also dictates that we take pictures in front of the tree.
Tradition was outraged last year - we forgot to take pictures!
We didn't dare forget this year...

Here's the whole gang. :)

That's all for now folks!

Miscellany

It's cold outside tonight.  Supposed to get down to 14*F.  Not super cold, but cold.

We got a wee bit of snow the other day.  About an inch...rather pathetic for this time of year in North Idaho.  I can't say that I mind though. :)

My bro and I went shopping for my dad today.   My dad doesn't read my blog (that I know of;), so I can tell you what we got him - a new wallet (Kohls), Kit-Kats, a plastic tube full of M&Ms with a plastic M&M Santa on top, a teddy bear shaped chocolate (about 5" tall), and a Hot Wheels car.  We enjoy joke presents in my family.   Like, wrapping a small present inside a huge box.  I guess you could sum it up by saying that we like to have fun. :)

On our way home from town, we stopped by Matthew (aka Ani) and Christopher's house for a surprise visit.  We brought donuts.  They let us in. ;)

I've said this before, but I just gotta say it again...

Steve McQueen = awesome

Did you know he became a Christian later in life?  I think that's so cool. =)

I had a wonderful time sewing and watching The Bishop's Wife with my good friend Michelle yesterday. :)

A few pictures of my sheepies...

Emma

 Sweet Pea

Calvin.
Isn't he cute?
I'm the only one he'll allow to pet him, and he follows me around like a dog.
Sometimes, I let him out of the pen and he walks around the property with me:)

Fawn, one of our guard llamas.
Llamas are such snobs.

None of my pics of Ingrid, my black ewe, turned out.  She moves too much.  Oh well.

I don't think I'll be posting anymore until after Christmas, so I'd like to wish all of my readers a very merry and blessed Christmas.  In the midst of our holiday cheer, let us not forget the reason we are celebrating - the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Being a shepherdess myself, it always makes me feel extra special to know that shepherds were the first to hear the glorious news of our Lord's birth.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And , lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and the were sore afraid.

Merry Christmas!

Cutting Down the Christmas Tree

For the past few years we've cut down our Christmas trees from the same spot on our property.
The trees are just the perfect size, so there's a wide variety to choose from.

A few pictures of my brother and I deciding on a tree...

"This is it!"

"I like this one...no needles to drop and we won't have to remember to water it!"

"Wellll...I really like this one better."

"Alex.  You don't. You like this one.  What's not to like?"

"Oh, I just can't decide!"

That face, fyi, is known as "the twisted bowler look".
If you've watched "Meet the Robinsons", you'll know where he got it from.
If you haven't...now you know.

We finally decided on a lovely Grand Fir and I think it's our prettiest Christmas tree yet.
I'll try and get some pics of the decorated tree soon.

Merry Christmas!

P.S. I've seriously given up on creative Christmas Tree post titles.  Sorry.
