The Day of the Doctor // DW 50th Anniversary

Today's the day, folks!  The sun is shining, the tank is clean, and it is the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who Special!!  Ahhhhhhh!!!!  *screams with excitement*  I am so, so EXCITED!!!  Oh dear...I'm really fangirling now.  And why shouldn't I??  It isn't every day that your favorite show turns 50!!  Squeeeee!!!!

Basically, I'm wandering around the house, grinning, skipping, vibrating, rubbing my hands together, and squealing, "50th anniversary! Ten...Rose...Eleven...Eight...warrior...TEN...doo wee oooOOOoooo!!!!"  Yup, such is the extent of my madness.

Can I just say right here, that the whole regeneration idea was BRILLIANT??  Cause it is.  Completely, and utterly brilliant.

For the past few weeks I've been re-watching the entire :new: series starting with Nine, so today will be spent crocheting, sewing, and watching Series 3 and 4.  (Unfortunately, I don't have Series 5, 6, and & from the library yet.  Oh well.)  And squealing.  A lot.  Then...The Day of the Doctor.  If you haven't already, then you need to watch the mini episode, The Night of the Doctor.  A fantastic build up for the 50th anniversary special...

So AWESOME!!!  If only we had TV...unfortunately, I won't be able to see the Day of the Doctor today.  Weep with me, fellow Whovians. ;)

Miscellany

Now that the weather is finally warming up, I've been spending as much time as I possibly can outside.
This afternoon I brought a towel out to the backyard where my sheep were grazing, spread it out in the sun, and stretched out for about an hour soaking in the warmth.  It felt like heaven...until Maggie came over and started nibbling on my feet.  That might have been cute when she was a baby, but it's not cute now!

Since my final lamb count this year was only three, and I'm keeping the two ewe lambs, I needed to buy more lambs for meat.  Last week, I drove up north to look at some Katahdin lambs.  The Katahdin is a hair breed, which means they shed every spring instead of being sheared.  I'm definitely not interested in them for breeding, but I think they'll be great as meat lambs.  I had a marvelous time talking sheep with their owner, Tess, and walking around her sheep pen examining the lambs and enjoying the sun.  I ended up putting a deposit down on 5 lambs, which I will be bringing home in about a week, and I'm giving her one of my llamas.  Finally, I found a home for one of the llamas!!  I have three, but I really only need two to guard my flock.  You would not believe how hard it is to find someone to take a llama, even for free.  Do not ask.  I'm so thankful that the Lord led me to Tess' place through the recommendation of a mutual friend.  Love when He turns the seemingly bad situations into unexpected blessings!

Next on the list will be dropping off the llama, picking up the lambs, and then sheep shearing.  Looking forward to all of that next week!

And this is so true it's not even funny...except it made me laugh, so apparently I laugh at things which aren't funny.  But I already knew that.  Anyway...

PG for some rude content

The Decoy Bride | The famous movie star Lara Tyler is marrying the love of her life James Arber, a bestselling author.  Wanting a simple wedding without being besieged by the paparazzi, they slip away to the Scottish island of Hegg.  But when a particularly persistent photographer follows them and Lara goes into hiding, there's only one thing her management team can do.  Get a decoy bride and fake a wedding! They recruit Katie, an unattached local girl who has given up on love, as their decoy.

Very much reminiscent of a screwball comedy from the 30s or 40s, this film was absolutely delightful from the crazy beginning to the happy ending!  Yes, I watched it in the first place because of David Tennant, but I fell in love with the setting, story, and cast after just a few minutes.  What could be better than a rom-com set in Scotland with the one and only DT?  Um, not much.  The only downside is that DT is playing a British character.  Yep, he doesn't get to use his native Scottish accent.  Tragic.  But DT wearing plaid pants and "playing" the bagpipes more than makes up for that, trust me!  I think the PG rating is fair.  Not really any language to speak of, some innuendo, and yes, some rude/crude content, but nothing to terrible in my opinion.  Well worth watching, and then watching again.

My mom watched it for the first time this week and loved it!  Although she did have a wee bit of trouble understanding what they were saying - if you don't watch a lot of British/Scottish films, it can be difficult to tell what they're saying, especially if they're talking fast.  But the solution to that is watch more British movies!

PG-13 for some violence and language

O Brother, Where Art Thou? | Loosely based upon Homer's "Odyssey", this is the story of three convicts who escape from a chain gang in 1930s Mississippi to recover the loot from a bank heist before a flood hides it forever.  Everett, Pete, and Delmar have one adventure after another as they evade the law, get baptized, encounter sirens, a cyclops, a KKK lynch mob, and assist bank robber George "Babyface" Nelson.

Right from the beginning, I found this film completely charming and delightful.  Beautifully filmed and acted, not to mention the fantastic music.  Oh yes, the music!  Old-time gospel and bluegrass. *bliss* I just bought the soundtrack the other day because I loved it so much. *smile*

There is a lot of language, so be warned.  The violence is mostly shoot-outs with the law (no one is hurt and it's not graphic), and one cow being shot with a machine gun and another hit and run over by a car (not graphic, although I found it disturbing).  One scene that some might find objectionable is the siren scene.  Nothing bad actually happens, but it's suggested, and the sirens are a bit scantily clad.  The PG-13 rating is appropriate.

The Nanny Diaries | Fresh out of Montclair State University, 21-year-old Annie Braddock is ready to begin her career as a ---- what?  What does Annie want to do?  Undecided, Annie sits on a bench at the park and ends up saving a little boy from getting run over.  When his grateful mother, Mrs. Alexandra X, mistakes Annie's name for "Nanny", Annie is hired to be Grayer's new nanny.  But high society and life as a nanny is more difficult than she expected, especially after meeting the X's neighbor, "Harvard Hottie".

I saw a preview for this film and immediately decided I had to see it because it looked both cute and hilarious.  I was not disappointed!   There's no question that this film is cute and hilarious, but there's also a surprisingly touching message in this story that needs to be heard by more modern mothers these days.   You're little boy is only a child for a short time - don't waste that time.  There are a few scenes that had me in tears, my heart ached for that little boy so much.

I loved Scarlett Johansson as Annie, and who wouldn't love Chris Evans as "Harvard Hottie"?  Who knew that Black Widow and Captain America dated each other once upon a time?  Ahem, sorry, fangirl crossover there... *wink*

There was a bit of content, some innuendo, quite a bit of language (mostly uses of sh*t), but not enough to spoil this absolutely charming story.  The most objectionable scene would be the one where Grayer pulls Annie's pants down in the back just as Harvard Hottie shows up.  You do see Annie's underwear, but she's completely covered.  If you've seen the preview/trailer, than you've already seen the worst this film has to offer.  Not that bad, right?  Also, Annie deceives her mother by not telling her that she's become a nanny.  She does this because her mom has such high expectations for Annie's career.  Lying to your parents is never good, and the fact that Annie does that does bother me, although I can also understand where Annie is coming from.  The PG-13 rating is appropriate in my opinion.

Doctor Who Blog Party | Guest Post {Ten & Rose - Alexandra}

So Tasha asked me to post on Ten and Rose, and I was more than happy to oblige! This couple as portrayed (as we know) by David Tennant and Billie Piper, have climbed themselves up high on my list of favorite film couples – second only to my Very Favorites, whom as I’m sure you all know if you’ve read my blog before are Percy and Marguerite Blakeney.

Soooo…sheesh…where do I begin?

When I first saw Doctor Who, I really wasn’t prepared at all for how deeply I would become attached to this couple. I mean…it was just a sci-fi show that I was checking out because I enjoy sci-fi and British television. Little did I know, of course, that I would become absolutely hooked to the show, it would quickly become my favorite, and I would completely fall in love with The Doctor and Rose. (I said the Doctor AND Rose. As a couple. Do not accuse me of falling in love with the Doctor. Cuz then I would have to confess because lying is a sin. And it might be embarrassing. I’m so in love with so many fictional guys, it’s crazy.)

Because our library didn’t have Season One, I decided to just start with the second season. Since I had started in the middle of the show, so to speak, it took me a bit to figure out the relationship. I wasn’t sure why Rose was crying or acting all “who are you I don’t know you” or all the talk about his changing and no one knowing who he was. After seeing Christmas Invasion I went back and read through what had happened and saw the mini-episode when Nine regenerated into Ten and figured it all out. New Earth saw me getting very attached to the characters (and beginning to succumb to David’s infectious grin). But by School Reunion(which personally is one of my favorite episodes in DW), when the Doctor promises Rose he’s not going to leave her the way he’s left other people in the past, I realized just how much I loved this show and loved this couple. Through spoilers, some accidentally and some not-so-accidentally discovered, I found out pretty early into it that Rose was somehow going to be separated from him. By the time I had gotten to the two part story commonly referred to by the second part’s title Doomsday, I was so distraught at this couple being separated that I waited a whole month before breaking down and watching it. And of course as all we Whovians did, I sobbed through it. Journey’s End was no different *spoilers*, from the incredible reunion scene (combine my favorite type of reunion, the running-towards-each-other kind, with my second favorite couple? Instant win…) to the heartbreaking second parting.

It took me a long time to accept the clone, by the way. Until a combination of a pin on Pinterest and a conversation with my sister (and some Deep Thinking on my part) reminded me that Rose was in love with Ten, more or less. And soon after the Doctor left, he regenerated. Basically Rose has all that is left of Ten, and she gets to stay with him for the rest of her life and he’ll never leave her or change again. And that really made me feel better about it on her end. Still didn’t change how broken I was for the Doctor, though.         

So what is it I absolutely adore about this couple?

If I had to sum it all up in one thing, I would say that I love the sweet, almost innocent romantic relationship they have. They’re almost like two kids in love, just so happy and…gah. Sniff. Anyway. They just both love being around each other, grinning goofily like two teenagers every time they’re together. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge sucker for a heart-racing passionate romance, but there’s something so completely adorable about the sweet, slightly awkward relationship Ten and Rose share in the second season that blossoms and develops into the very truest of true love. I think the worst part is that we have a feeling from the beginning that it’s doomed from the first time she realizes there’s been other companions, and that he can’t grow old with her. And yet we want it so badly to work out so that he doesn’t have to be lonely anymore and he can finally have some kind of happiness in life. And of course that doesn’t happen, and we’re left with them separated and us in a puddle of tears.   

And the Doctor is never quite the same after he loses her – he kind of loses that wide-eyed puppy-dog exuberance that he has in the beginning. I watched the second season again with my brother and sister after seeing the Tennant years through once before, and I was struck at how young and exuberant Ten looked then, how contrasted it was with his worn, tired and heartsick look at the end of season four, and it all started the day he lost Rose.

It’s terribly morbid how much I love making my heart hurt. :-D I had a literal ache at the end of both Doomsday and Journey’s End. I mean, really, Ten gets such a stinking deal in life. It is a tribute to excellent writing and superb acting that you get so sucked in and emotionally invested in their adorable and ultimately tragic story. And although I know that the Doctor eventually moves on (which I still haven’t quite accepted yet), I can’t help but feel that his love for Rose was different from anyone else. You see it in that grin he gets when Donna reminds him that Rose is back, that adorable giggle (come on, I’m not the only one that loves that scene!) when Rose tells him that she has done everything she did “so she could come back”. I mean…how much bigger can you get than a love that spans time and space? Can’t get much better than that. J 

They compliment each other, lift each other up, and ultimately change each other for the better, which I think is the vital sign of a good relationship of any kind – but especially a romantic one. Comparing the Doctor and Rose in the beginning with the Doctor and Rose at the end of Season Four, it’s fascinating to see the change – a change that might never had happened if they had never met. 

Of course, no matter how well written a couple may be, you can never truly believe in them without the hard work, talent, and most importantly chemistry between the two lead actors portraying the characters. The chemistry that David and Billie have both off and on screen is at least half of the appeal of the couple. My pictures of them on Pinterest are usually captioned “The Adorable Ones” because to be honest, “adorable” sums up the whole David-Billie/Ten-Rose relationship. From the moment she first takes his hand to the heartbreak in their eyes inDoomsday to the kiss between 10.5 and Rose (and why did Ten not only never get to tell her he loved her, but never kissed her?! That was just plain ol’ wrong, people. He kissed all his other companions, for pete’s sake), David and Billie perfectly capture every nuance and emotion that makes this couple so above-and-beyond amazing.  

What makes a show isn’t just great special effects or a good script, or a great director. In the end it’s the characters that we care about, their journey through life and relationships. We enjoy getting to know them and see how they grow both as individuals and with each other. We want to root for them getting together, and cry when something goes wrong, and cheer when everything turns out all right…or sort of, in this case. ;) We all long for a kind of love that stands through tough times, never lets go when things seem impossible, and never ends no matter what happens or wherever the other goes. The kind of love that is a smile across the room, the light in each other’s eyes, and the kind that just knows how much the other cares without even having to say it (even if we desperately want them to!).

And when it all boils down to it, that’s what I love so much about Ten and Rose.

Doctor Who Blog Party | Guest Post {Felt Doctor Dolls - Vicki}

Hi everyone! I'm Vicki, and I blog over at Decked Out in Ruffles, sharing my faith, my love of fashion, vintage, sewing, and all things geeky. I'm a homeschool graduate turned college girl, and I am a huge, huge Doctor Who fan. Today I'm going to show y'all my first Doctor Who inspired craft, and share the story behind it. Allons-y!

Once there was a girl who discovered a  show on Netflix that seemed different than anything she'd ever seen before. It was British, it had aliens, and it had a blue box that was bigger on the inside and could traverse both time and space. So she said to herself, "I'll watch one episode: just one." And within minutes she was hooked. One episode turned into two, then three. She fell head over heels in love with the Doctor. It took her awhile to realize that she had met him several times before, years ago, when she was little, while watching reruns of past seasons (the ones with Peter Davison) with her dad, another fan. More than anything, she wanted the Doctor to appear outside her doorstep and whisk her away on a wild adventure, but to her dismay, he never came. She felt she needed her own Doctor, and, after some Pinterest inspiration, she set to work stitching her very own representations of the Doctor's 10th and 11th regenerations out of felt. And this is what came of that:

Ten was the first felt doll I'd ever sewn, and I was immensely proud of him, despite the fact that he was slightly lopsided and his trousers didn't quite fit. He had the hair and my favorite blue suit--oh, and Converse, of course!

I love Eleven and Ten almost equally, and so I knew I had to make one of Eleven too! They get along quite well together, though they do tend to squabble about who has the best hair or the best catch phrase and which episodes should be watched. Often they're too busy fighting aliens and saving the world to be too bothered by each other's company (though it is quite the paradox!).

Anyway! I modeled these two after a free pattern I discovered for simple felt dolls (which you can find here...I just added my own adjustments). I plan on doing a tutorial of some kind on my blog in the future, but in the meantime, if you'd like to try your hand at making your own, it's not very difficult at all, especially if you use this pattern as a base and build off it.

1| If you decided to name your first born child after any Doctor Who character, male or female, who would it be?  Rose.  I've always loved that name anyway, but especially now. ;)

2| What is your favourite colour of the Doctor's shoes?  The red ones...although I do love it when he wears the black ones with his tux.  Style points;)

3| Look around yourself and name the one thing that is TARDIS blue in your house!  There's a tea tray in our kitchen that has a decidedly TARDIS blue background.

4| If you could pick who plays the Twelfth Doctor which actor would you choose and why?  Oh dear...hard question!  I'd love to see Tom Hiddleston in DW somehow, but as the Doctor, I'm not so sure.  If he was the Doctor though, I think he'd be amazing!  He's got quite an acting range, he's definitely quirky and would bring something to the role.   I'd like to see who the BBC picks, though.  They've done pretty well so far, in my opinion;)

5| The Doctor is going back in time again, which historical era should he visit?  France during the Reign of Terror.  Maybe he'd bump into The Scarlet Pimpernel!  That would be awesomeness overload!!! :D

6| Would you REALLY go with the Doctor in the TARDIS?  I've thought about this one before.  If he could absolutely guarantee that I'd be back home the same day I left, then yes, I would...but going by his track record, I'd say the chances of that actually happening are pretty slim.  So, I'd have to say no.  I mean, if he looked like David Tennant I'd be seriously tempted, but I'm quite content and happy where I am, really.   I've got my family, my friends, and my sheep, why would I want to leave all of that? :)

7| Who's your favorite Doctor and why?  Ten.  David-of-the-epic-hair aside, I just love his personality, his outfit, the way he runs around the TARDIS pulling on levers and bashing things with his rubber mallet, his epic hair, how he repeats "what?" all the time, and just everything really.  However, that doesn't mean I don't like the other regenerations.  I love them all really.  They're all completely brilliant, and I'm especially fond of Nine, as he was my first Doctor.

8| Would you be afraid to spend Christmas in London?  Nope.  It would be exciting, and if anything did go wrong I know the Doctor would put it all right somehow.  I have complete faith in his awesomeness. *grin*

9| Do you look at an ordinary screwdriver and think 'this could be a bit more sonic?'  Every time.  It's a habit now.

10| Angel statues, plastic mannequins, Christmas trees - what ordinary everyday object would you love to make an object of terror to Whovians were you Steven Moffat?  Ooh, let me think...staplers.   Or traffic-lights.  Or cuckoo clocks.  Or chickens.  Or fake potted plants.  Or cell phones.  =O

11| The TARDIS lands in your garden and the Doctor steps out. What is the first thing you say to him?  *jaw drop*  It's YOU!!!!  *big hug*  What took you so long?!  *pulling him back into the TARDIS*   What are you waiting for?!  Allons-y!! *huge grin*

12| Who is your favorite actor who has played the Doctor so far and why?  The one and only David Tennant!!  Because David is the most brilliant actor I have ever seen.  Period.  End of story.  You can all go home now.  There is such depth in every character he plays.  And those sad brown eyes get me every time.  That coupled with his epic hair and adorable smile. Also, I love it that David is such a DW fanboy.  I mean, he's watched this show since he was 4 and that was when he decided to become an actor.  He wanted to be the Doctor.   And he was.  He was brilliant.

13| Have you seen any Classic Doctor Who? If so, which Doctor/episode(s) is your favorite?  I've seen Robot with Tom Baker (4th Doctor) and An Unearthly Child with William Hartnell (1st Doctor).  I enjoyed them both, but I liked Robot better.  Actually, I just LOVED Tom Baker as the Doctor.  He was awesome! And Sarah Jane Smith is so cute and spunky.  Love her so much.

14| Which are the creepiest, scariest and all-out meanest baddies in all the Who-niverse?  The Silence are pretty darn creepy...

15| Who is/are your favorite Companion(s) and why?  I love them all, with the exception of Captain Jack Harkness, but Rose Tyler and Sarah Jane are my favorites.   I love Rose and the Doctor.  They loved and needed each other so much and completely trusted one another.  *sniffle*  She made him better.  *sob*
And Rory!!  I absolutely adore Rory. :)

16| Did you cry more watching Doomsday or The Angels Take Manhattan?   I have yet to see The Angels Take Manhattan.  Poor me.  I sobbed buckets watching Doomsday.  My heart breaks again every single time I watch it, see screencaps from it, or even hear the soundtrack theme.  It's so beautifully tragic.   I love and hate it all at once, but I watch it over and over again.

17| What is your favorite quote from the show?
This is my timey wimey detector...it goes 'ding' when there's stuff.  And it can boil an egg at thirty paces, whether you want it to or not actually.  Also I've learned to stay away from hens.  It's not pretty when they blow. - Ten

18| Which Doctor (including all previous regenerations) would you most like to be the companion of, and why?   Ten.  David Tennant.  End of story.

19| Which of the following are you more scared of, the Daleks, Cybermen, or the Weeping Angles?  The Cybermen.  It creeps me out that they can turn you into one of them, with no emotions or feelings or pain.  I really can't think of anything more horrible than that.  *shudder*  Seriously, just kill me or zap me into the past and let me live to death.  Don't take away the things that make me human.

20| Who are some of your favorite guest stars in the series?  I love Sophia Myles as Reinette from The Girl in the Fireplace.  Just love that episode, really.  Makes me cry.  I like crying over tragic endings.  And of course Carey Mulligan as Sally Sparrow in Blink!  One of my favorite actresses.  I would have LOVED to have seen her as a companion!   Georgia Moffet as Jenny in The Doctor's Daughter.  'Cause she's David Tennant's wife and she's absolutely adorable.   Colin Morgan as Jethro in Midnight, because he's also Merlin in Merlin.   David Morrissey in The New Doctor.   Pure awesomeness right there.  Michael Gambon in A Christmas Carol.  Just love him, he's so brilliant.  And I'll stop there, for everyone's sake.  Doctor Who always has a simply fantastic supporting cast.


21| What was your first experience with Doctor Who and how did you hear about the series?  I think it was in May of this year that I discovered the wonderful world of the Doctor and fell in love.  I kept hearing about this show called Doctor Who on different blogs and seeing pins on Pinterest, and I thought, "British sci-fi?  That looks like something I'd enjoy."  I started at the beginning of the new show with the Ninth Doctor.  10 minutes into the first episode and I was completely hooked.  The rest, as they say, is history. ;)

25| After watching a certain Doctor Who episode, did you summon up the courage to try fish sticks and custard?  No, I haven't.  But the, I haven't exactly had the opportunity present itself.  If that ever happens, then yes, I will give it a try!

Wallpaper Wednesday | David Tennant

Howdy folks!  I hope your Wednesday was as fabulous as mine was!  This morning I went with a friend to visit her spinning (as in, spinning wheel) group meeting.  It was fascinating listening to the ladies there talk about different spinning techniques and watch them use their wheels.  I didn't bring my wheel this time, preferring to simply observe my first time there, but I think I will next time.  Or possibly my knitting - a lot of the ladies brought knitting projects and offered to help me figure out the proper way to cast on.  As I've been struggling to teach myself to knit using instructional books, I think I'm going to take them up on their offer!

Okay, enough of that - are you ready for today's wallpaper?

Doctor Who {Series 5} | Review

Waiting...waiting...waiting...

I love my library, but the painful truth is that it takes FOREVER for requests to come in.  Particularly when you request Doctor Who.  There must be more Whovians around than you'd think, because there are always several holds in ahead of mine.  

Waiting...waiting...waiting...

And then...it's there.  The next series.  At the library, waiting for me to pick it up, bring it home, and watch it...I've usually finished it within two days.   But that means I get to watch it over again before I have to bring it back.  *sheepish grin*  That's the sad, painful truth right there, folks.

I FINALLY got Series 5.  This was a big moment.  My FIRST introduction to the Doctor's 11th regeneration.   I'll admit that I was extremely hesitant to move on to series 5.  Just couldn't imagine anyone coming after Ten, flying through time and space in the TARDIS.  Also I'm completely, hopelessly in love with  David Tennant, for obvious reasons...

I mean, hello people, this guy is adorable...not to mention gorgeous.  And if anyone was born to play the Doctor, it's David.

Ahem, moving on...
So I held off for a while, but curiosity finally won out.

And...I saw him.

Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor

And I thought, "This guy is absolutely insane!"  That's when I knew that he was the Doctor.  Maybe not my Doctor, but he is absolutely the Doctor.   Absolutely a mad man with a box.  And still absolutely wonderful.
All things considered, I thought Matt Smith did a splendid job as the Doctor.  The main thing I missed (well, aside from DT;), was depth.  Matt's Doctor definitely doesn't have as much depth to his character as either Eccleston's or Tennant's performances.  However, he does have some pretty good dialog and fantastic moments, so I can forgive that.  Besides, not everyone can be David Tennant;)

Amy Pond - the girl who waited.
I'm still deciding how I feel about Amy.  I envy her hair - always did wish I was ginger - and I love how spunky she is, but...she doesn't seem to appreciate Rory like she should.  I'm not saying she doesn't love him, I'm just saying she doesn't fully realize how amazing he is.  Besides, all is forgiven when you hear Amy's Scottish accent!  I'm lovin' it!!!

Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams

Because Rory...well, I'm in love with Rory Williams.  He totally did not impress me in the first episode, but any guy who duels a vampire using a broomstick is awesome in my book.  And he protected Amy for 2,000 years, dressed as a centurion, no less!!   *melt*  He will forever love Amy.  It's beautiful.
And I will forever love Rory.

Alex Kingston as River Song

And now we're starting to find out more about the mysterious River Song, who made her first appearance in Silence in the Library-Forest of the Dead with the 10th Doctor.  His first meeting and her last - time travel is such fun;)  Of course, I already know where her story is heading.  It's impossible to be on Pinterest and not see spoilers. ;)

We've got the usual reoccurring monsters/aliens/enemies - the Daleks (will they never be completely destroyed??), Cybermen, Weeping Angels (thank you Moffat for freaking me out every time I even see a picture of an angel now!  I wasn't paranoid enough - I needed that.), and in the series finale the gangs all there with the Sontarans and every other enemy of the Doctor you can think of.

In this series, we've been handed over to Steven Moffat, the evil genius who now produces and writes  Doctor Who.  He certainly enjoys tormenting us poor Whovians...and Sherlockians too, for that matter.  But he's brilliant.  Love his complex plots.  Instead of turning into vegetables watching TV, you're forced to think.  Love it!!  However, it does seem as if there is more what I would consider to be adult themes in this series.  Nothing absolutely inappropriate, but a few things that I wouldn't be comfortable having young kids watch...but then, I don't think I'd be comfortable having young kids watch any of the new Doctor Who, no matter which series.

On the whole, I enjoyed Series 5 very, very much.  Aside from feeling slightly disoriented with the new face of the Doctor, his new sonic screwdriver, and the new interior for the TARDIS, it was very good.  Well written, good characters and good plots.  I'm definitely looking forward to watching Series 6!
